NBA Math Hoops is a community program, including a basketball board game, app, and curriculum. In this program, students refine fundamental math skills through the game of basketball. Content is aligned with Common Core State Standards and 21st Century Learning Skills. Currently, this program is offered to select students in fourth and fifth grade who are nominated by their teacher. This 12-week program takes place twice a week for an hour after school on days chosen by the Math Hoop trained teachers. Toward the end of the program date, students are able to attend a Sacramento Kings basketball game free of charge. 

Project Optimism Mentoring Sessions Project Optimism Mentoring Sessions (POMS) is a program designed for 4th through 12th-grade students. Our program aims to improve social-emotional and behavioral skills, promote school connectedness, and improve academic performance. POMS is designed to improve accessibility to positive role models for historically at-promise youth by aligning them with mentors who are reflective of their demographics for either a semester or a year long. Participants will attend workshops that will focus on the 40 Developmental Assets (Search Institute, 2015), which outline internal and external assets that are essential to youth becoming well-rounded, well-adjusted human beings. Topics covered include: Positive Identity, Empowerment, Commitment to Learning, Goal Setting and more.

What is Student Council?

Student Council is an extracurricular activity that allows students the chance to become leaders and serve our school community. Student Council members lead by example and make decisions that represent the best interest of their peers. In addition, members participate in community service projects, host school-wide events, and attend weekly Student Council meetings.

Member Requirements:

• 5th grade students only
• attend all meetings (Thursdays during lunch recess)
• maintain good behavior (No major disciplinary actions taken in the current school year)
• complete classroom and homework assignments to the best of their ability
• act as good role models for other students
